Instead of the usual complaining that is associated with most arts people Naboth RIZLA a Hip Hop enthusiast from the City Of Kings has taken it upon himself to team up with two talented rappers named Maestro IV and Sky City Uno to take hip hop to Zimbabwe in the form of a 4 city tour dubbed Hip Hop 263.
The “Hip Hop 263 Tour” was birthed from the radio show that Naboth RIZLA hosts on Power Ace Radio (UK) every Thurs- day from 4-6pm UK Time and 5-7pm CAT Time as a way to spread awareness of the radio show but also doubling as a way of connecting with people in different cities growing the Hip Hop reach.
On the 18th of September, the Hip Hop 263 Tour kicked off in Hwange at the Insomnia Pub and Grill were a lot of people came out to support and have fun. Maestro The IV a Bulawayo artist/producer brought the house down with tracks like “Shake” and “Majika” that got especially the ladies screaming and singing along whilst Sky City Uno a hip hop artists based in Johannesburg South Africa but from Bulawayo (Zimbabwe) got the crowd screaming “Two Two” after a worthwhile performance of his song with a similar title featuring Young Tyran.
His rendition of Olivia Mtukudzi’s Neria got the audience singing along. Other artists to take to the stage and rock were Dweezy, Otrizy P, Lowbay J from 5 Star group and MC Mento and Tasha buoi all from Hwange. The next day the tour was in Victoria Falls at the Kingdom Hotel Action Bar were they met with artists that have a fresh new approach and sound to hip hop.
The Hip Hop 263 Tour then continued to Bulawayo were Maestro IV launched his Top Jita Ep at Shisha Lounge on the 25th of September and before you know it the project had over 12500 downloads in a few hours after that showing how powerful the Top Jita Movement is. On the next day, still in Bulawayo on the 26th of September the DGV Rap Battles were on in two cities on two different but huge festivals at the same damn time.
DGV Rap Battles were on at the Intwasa Arts Festival were Boogey Brintz VS The Dot and Lwastler VS Rudeboy in Bulawayo and on the same date in Chitungwiza they were also happening as part of the Shoko Festival 2015 proceedings with Kingson Mac VS Spliffah Ray and Tap Tap VS AyKay. The highlight would have to be performing the DGV Rap Battles to over 2000+ people on stage and getting lots of great feedback.
A big shout out goes out to ZiFM that interviewed the DGV Rap Battle artists on Tshila’s Backstage show live on radio for the first time ever at their Harare studios and also to Emitty Smooth who interviewed Naboth RIZLA and Sky City Uno at Bulawayo Montrose studios for Power FM Zimbabwe.
Also not forgetting Bruce Ndlovu who wrote about the Hip Hop 263 Tour in the B-Metro Newspaper. It’s through this great support we are proud to say the 4City (Hwange, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo and Chitungwiza) Naboth RIZLA’s Hip Hop 263 Tour was a re-sounding success. We hope to see more of this initiative in the future.
