mbo mahocs

Mbo Mahocs is a Zimbabwean Singer, Fashionista, TV Presenter, Model, Actress and Architect in the making. The hard-working Bulawayo-born beauty has been on a roll ever since she made it on the entertainment scene. From hosting Byo Swagg, to the Zimbabwe Music Awards 2014 red carpet, and the recent Vault Cosmetics Bulawayo launch the list is endless Mbo Mahocs is on a high gear making waves. Kwantuthu Arts Magazine caught up with Mbo Mahocs with a request to be on the cover of our African May Issue and took the time to interview the multitalented lady.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO STAY ON TOP OF YOUR GAME?
By being a step ahead. I stopped taking the entertainment business as a hobby & took my work seriously. I thought about investing in the future, articulating & presenting the brand Mbo Mahocs. I have a vision, I plan ahead & set goals towards long term 5-10 years, the future… I am my own competition & strive to be better than yester- day, the best I can be.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF BEING IN THE SPOTLIGHT?
Being thrust into a male-dominated society where your work is not taken seriously or is taken for granted. Where, unfortunately, an ignorant society may believe that a woman cannot work her way to the top without the assistance of a male. In this day & age, these are issues we should be over.

IS THERE ANYONE SPECIAL IN YOUR LIFE?
My family & a few friends, & FANS are special to me, they are my backbone & I value their support & encouragement. The people that know me “without make-up” & stand for me thick or thin.

IN A RELATIONSHIP?
Potential gentlemen are roaming not very far away Laugh out Loud (lol) but by choice, I am single for now. I’ve had my share of disappointment & would rather divert my energies into my work. I am content & happy!

WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO?
Broadening prospects on TV, radio, and entrepreneurship is tagging me by the sleeve because the vision for the brand is to grow bigger. I developed a fetish for tutu skirts & currently work- ing on designs targeted for sweet sixteens up to the mature, sophisticated lady with a playful fun side, & a touch of ethnicity which I am about.

Finally, Bulawayo has a radio station & I am “honoured to be one of the people that will make it happen for Bulawayo. I am on the GTee Vibe as co-host alongside GilmoreTee & have an independent show called Spotlight leMbo Mahocs, you’ll have to stay tuned to know what it’s about….

WHY THE COVER?
This cover is about growing thick skin as a woman in the business. After the world batters you with whatever it throws at you lies, assumptions, negativity, hate and even love, what makes you conquer is standing tall, chin up & just do you! Grow thick skin! This speaks for all the women out there that have experienced #hate #oppression in the industry & have no voice, our Miss Zimbabwe for instance. Do YOU!

It also celebrates my being a Modern African woman, connecting with my being, and roots and also keeping up to date. May is Africa month ” and I am excited to be seen as a hard-working African woman.
