Sheunopa Musukutwa, aka “SkyCityUno” is a Zimbabwean rapper born in Bulawayo,Zimbabwe.
SkyCityUno moved to Johannesburg South Africa to further his musical Ambitions and has been based there since 2010. After moving to Johannesburg, the rapper managed to carve out a distinct sound and approach to his music which can best be described as the current affairs of his life and society as a whole between the two cities of Bulawayo and Johannesburg. His lyrics are multi-cultural and have been praised for the way they seamlessly transcend between Shona, Ndebele, English, and Zulu.
SkyCityUno is currently working towards the release of his long-awaited EP which is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2015. In this regard, SkyCityUno will be releasing singles from his upcoming E.P. as well as embarking on a short tour of Southern Africa to promote its release.
From 2012 – 2013 SkyCityUno enjoyed some success with his music being playlisted on national radio and Television stations across South Africa as well as radio playlisting in Zimbabwe, Namibia and the United Kingdom. In 2014 he took a hiatus in order to cultivate a new sound that could adequately represent the voice of the modern-day African youth. He has managed to combine his own musical tastes ranging from the likes of Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi to Black Coffee, and find his own voice in the diversity.
He has been interviewed by the Legendary Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa for his radio show on Metro FM among other local and international interviews. SkyCityUno is what some would call an internet Phenom and has been tipped to be the next big thing by Da Grapevine blogger and Hype Magazine Columnist Naboth Rizla. He has also been featured on South Africa’s biggest hip hop blog SlikourOnLife whilst also receiving “the nod” from the Hip Hop veteran himself.
SkyCityUno has collaborated and shared stages with the likes of Ginger breadman of “Bump the Cheese up” fame as well as Kid X and Smashis from Cashtime to mention but a few. 2015 promises to be a big year for SkyCityUno with the E.P. expected to be a success and fame imminent, the exciting, authentically African sound that he has made his own is certain to gain interest from across the world.
