One own One with Radio Personality Khaya

One on one with Khayelihle Moyo also known as Khaya Drastic the SkyzMetro FM radio presenter

How did you your passion for musical start to get to where you are today?

Music has been a passion for as long as I can remember. However, I think the romance with music probably began when I fell in love with Hip Hop (Grade 6 or so). Since then my appreciation for music has grown.

What is your creative process in developing a radio show?

Steve Allen aptly described radio as “…the theatre of the mind”, and every time I plan for a radio show, I bear that in mind. My creative process involves preparation, which I believe is the foundation on which an engaging radio show is built upon. Apart from preparation, keeping an ear on the ground and understanding the real topical issues affecting the everyday person and crafting content around that is an integral part of the process.

How would you describe your radio music playlist and what influences it?

Pop, urban, contemporary with splashes of classics! My music playlist is largely influenced by what’s hot, current and also give emerging genres a chance.

Can you tell us what inspired the name ‘of show’?

The afternoon show is called Metro Drive and bascially my co-host and I wanted a name that would reflect youuthfulness and the ‘metropolitan-ness’ of our audience. I also host the Saturday breakfast show, called Six2Ten Weekend Rise – it’s pretty self explanatory (Six2Ten being the time I’m on air and Weekend Rise signifying the start of the weekend)

What is your favourite song of all time and album separately? Tell us why.

The trickiest trick question ever! My favourite song changes frequently, so I cannot settle on one song only BUT I can give you my current favs:

CURRENT favourite song, Muzi – Desire (Muzi’s sound is experimental and I love how weird it sounds)

My CURRENT favourite album is Khalid’s Free Spirit (every single song on this album is FIRE)
