The highly anticipated Bokeh South Africa International Lifestyle & Fashion Film Festival, now in its sixth year, returns to Cape Town and is set to dazzle and inspire at the upcoming event presented by Savanna Loco. The world renowned festival will once again acknowledge and award local and international film talent. Known for its informative festival activities, the dazzling Red Carpet Gala Award, an impressive guest compliment and the awarding of substantial prize money and offerings to the talented winning filmmakers, Bokeh has undoubteldy become the most creative and inspiring Fashion Film Festival globally.

The 2014 – 2018 festival events held in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, have consistently delivered a world class platform for both local and international speakers, film makers, fashion designers and guests to mingle, sip champagne, indulge in the finest food and take in the inspiring Fashion Films on offer. The V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa’s most-visited destination will host this auspicious affair from the 9th to the 14th July with the main Gala Awards taking place on Saturday, July 13.

“Our passion for fashion is why we decided to be the host venue for the Bokeh Gala Event for the first time this year. The platform, serving as a backdrop to the celebration of fashion and film provides inspiration to the V&A Waterfront’s appeal as the home of luxury fashion,” says Donald Kau, Head of PR & Communications for the V&A Waterfront.

The festival in Cape Town includes multiple free screenings, captivating industry presentations, master classes and competitions by the featured sponsors, designers, and filmmakers from 9am to 9pm each day.

Savanna, described as “the unapologetic cider” by Savanna Marketing Manager Lazola Dali, will also be in attendance. “Savanna has been a proud partner of Bokeh Festival for the past two years [and] we view this platform as the ultimate expression of unapologetic ideas. It allows us to experiment within a very creative space whilst providing a platform for the fashion film industry. So, roll out the yellow carpet Cape Town, get ready for another edition of Bokeh!” Dali says.

With over 500 submissions from 46 countries, entries have been whittled down to the 129 Official Selections that will be shown over the week at various screenings. Year on year this unique festival has grown in stature, recognition and initiatives, with an increasing emphasis on enabling young local creatives through fringe events such as workshops, mentoring programmes and of course recognition and prizes through the prestigious awards events. Bokeh’s main objective is to discover and nurture South African talent in the film, fashion, design, music and technology fields.

Founder Adrian Lazarus

Adrian Lazarus, the founder of the Bokeh Fashion Film Festival, and a successful director in his own right, is perhaps one of a few men who can suavely pull off a suit with a pair of Havaianas flip flops. The director opened the event by discussing the purpose of the Festival and sharing films submitted by some of the Festival’s previous finalists, ending off with one of Burberry’s latest fashion films.

Adrian has been a driving force in the film industry, by giving young directors a platform to showcase their talent, thereby opening more doors for them to further their craft.
