Bulawayo: On Friday 26 July 2019, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in collaboration with Paper Bag Africa, Convergence and 10thDistrict will host the fourth edition of the monthly late evening event dubbed Friday Late. Proceedings kick-off at 5:30 pm.
Friday Late is an event which seeks to build new audiences for NGB exhibitions and events. The platform showcases old and new exhibitions and further showcases other art forms namely music, dance, film, poetry and food stalls. Friday Late seeks to accommodate those that cannot visit the Gallery during working hours but would love to be a part of the Gallery’s cultural offing. Friday Late also caters for young people keen to engage in dialogue and networking in a creative space.

This Friday, award-winning dance group – Super Geeks will put up a 30minutes production inclusive of dancing, acting and miming. Award-nominated musicians, Mimmie Tarukwana, Qeqeshiwe, Vuyo Brown, Miss Dee, and Clive Change are also billed to perform. The National Gallery in Bulawayo will also launch a new exhibition titled Entities and Subjects. Artists working from the Gallery will have their studios open till late, with food and drink stalls available. To cater for film lovers, Episode 2 of Being Braydan, an online reality television show, will be screened. Friday Late is free of entry.
ABOUT SOME OF THE FRIDAY LATE ACTS:
VUYO BROWN is a singer/songwriter and contemporary gospel artist from Bulawayo. She broke into the music business professionally in 2014. She released her first single ndiJesu in July 2016, which has been on the Skyz Metro FM Gospel top 10 (top 10 since 2016?). The mbira and bass guitar fusion in the song brings out an authentic Zimbabwean sound. Vuyo Brown released her debut album “Grace Fulfilled” in …. and it has 8 tracks.
MIMMIE TARUKWANA is a versatile RnB soul artist who started off as a backing vocalist for local artists. She is the lead vocalist for the Outfit Band and released her first single in June 2018. She is a Skyz Metro FM Music Awards and Bulawayo Arts Awards nominee.
Supergeeks the Genesis is a multi-award-winning dance group. The group is versatile and their moves range from hip-hop, afro pansula, contemporary, and traditional. Group members aim to express their feelings and emotions through dance.
QEQESHIWE is a two-time NAMA award winner, actress, singer, and songwriter. Through music and dance, she has toured several African and European countries working with the likes of Intombi Zomqangala and Umkhathi Theatre works. Qeqe Mntambo is an afro soul/jazz and Afro-house singer. Qeqe has released 10 singles between the years 2013-2019 and has also worked with bands locally and regionally.
BEING BRAYDAN: Just like any other young adult in Zimbabwe, Braydan Heart, a 25-year-old Bulawayo boy navigates the streets of his home town trying to discover himself. Determined to make it in the creative industry, Braydan Heart, Michelle Chikwengo, John Mombeshora, and Linscah go through everyday problems just like any other person. The only difference is that they are not just any other Bulawayo kids, they see the world differently and the city is their playground. The show also profiles other young talented people, different destinations and spaces in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe as a whole.
